VEHOA Board of Directors
VEHOA Board of Directors
The Board consists of five members, and the association's administrator (a non-voting position). The founding document for the Valle Escondido Homeowners Association states that the purpose of the association, among other things, is to "Provide maintenance and administration of the common property” for the welfare of the association and the “benefit and enjoyment of owners and property occupants.” It also grants the Board with “control of all business for the association” that does not otherwise require consent of a General Assembly. Details are included in the Deed 1937 bylaws. You can read this in the documents section.
There is also an important clause regarding who directs the directors: the members do! This simple phrase, in recognition that we are an association of neighbors, embodies the guiding principle that the directors follow when making decisions for our shared community. All decisions made after due deliberation must consider the welfare and security of all members, our guiding documents, and any applicable government regulations.
Andre Barentz - President
I served my two homeowners' associations in Chicago and its suburbs, managing construction projects for seven years, serving as treasurer for two years, and as a HOA president for ten years. I moved to Boquete from the Chicago area where I had lived for 31 years. I have had three careers, each lasting for about ten years: medicine, computer programming, and management. I have worked in small offices, hospitals, startups, and Fortune 100 companies. My last degree was an MBA. I have travelled for business and pleasure in the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In 2024, my wife and I chose Valle Escondido as our early retirement destination. My goal is to facilitate incremental and pragmatic improvements for the association.
Neil Levin - Treasurer:
Jeanine and I first visited Boquete and Valle Escondido in 2017 and instantly knew this community was where we wanted to live. We moved to VE in early 2019 and have made many great friends and memories in our time here. Before retiring in 2019, I was a litigation attorney for nearly 40 years in both private and later corporate practice. I spent the last 23-plus years in corporate management. My goal is simply to serve the best interests of our community of neighbors and the vision it was created for. I am pleased to volunteer my time and energy to help our community move forward in a positive way with any challenges ahead.
Steve Lanan - Secretary
I previously worked in the software industry for over thirty years as a developer and technical leader. After retiring in 2020, I began volunteering with Portland Emergency Preparedness, serving as the liaison for my condominium building and helping residents stay informed on matters of safety and emergency protocols. I also served as a member of my condominium’s Operations Committee, which managed and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the building. In addition, I was a member of the South Waterfront Community team, working with neighbors to strengthen local preparedness and to coordinate response plans. I believe community involvement and collaborative decision-making are key to building a stronger community.
